Feeding Spiritual Curiosity to Children

Organized community based youth sport programs set the tone for a progressive conversation with children about their spiritual journey. Children must be encouraged to walk in faith in order to overcome social challenges they face on a day to day basis. Encouraging children to adopt biblical habit success is the first step towards purposeful life driven by spiritual confidence.

A Faith Based Approach

At Africa Outreach USA, we strive to develop a Christian centered approach of discipleship and love for one another. We believe in empowering children with a unique set of spiritual lifetime tools that become central to their approach in life. By applying faith based habit success patterns, children can proactively take steps to avert falling through the cracks and grow up to become successful in life. The opportunity cost of deploying a faith based early intervention approach in children' lives outweighs the cost of employing corrective measures considering the limitation of resources. This model gives children the spiritual support needed to develop self confidence that translates into academic performance & life time skills.

Model Christian Values

The sports model we use is an ideal training ground for children to learn about: respect for others, importance of gender balance, fear of God, self-discipline and staying positive. These values are designed to help mold them into well rounded characters in life. Modeling faith based values is a critical step to influence behavior modification and foster sustainable societal transformation. In a communal system where children lose both parents to HIV/AIDS, typically there is a slim margin for hope. Our goal is to indulge children's curiosity in faith by captivating their mindset with something they love to do, sports. The presence of an actively involved teaching community on our program presents a trusted resource that commands credible authority within the community. A strong partnership with school teachers ensures childrens' adherence to christian values in sports as well as the classroom environment.

We challenge & prepare children to develop a personal relationship with God as they embark on their spiritual journey. We believe in a spiritual engagement strategy that transforms children into well rounded individuals willing to embrace their predicament. In an environment where all hope is lost, we place special emphasis on hope restoration through sport, setting the stage for sound learning practices and application. Our sports program is successful at captivating young minds, become a beacon of hope and influence children to develop a lasting relationship with God. This is also reflected upon how they approach challenges with a positive mind set.

Build A Legacy of Faith

Prayer is the most powerful safety net that we fall back on in times of uncertainty and adversity in life. While communities in Africa are faced with a unique set of perpetual social-economic challenges, we encourage children to adopt biblical habit success patterns needed to restore hope. In order to effectively utilize prayer as a source of strength, we encourage children to give thanks for what they have and receive to set the tone for appreciation and gratitude. We strive to normalize faith as a path for young boys & girls as they navigate through breaking the poverty cycle that inhibits them from prosperity. Getting children in particular girls to become inquisitive about faith sets the stage for the next generation leaders.

Discover Spiritual Gifts

Unlocking the spiritual potential that co-exists among communities requires a deliberate effort. Our goal is to cultivate a spirit of volunteerism within the community in an impactful and productive way beneficial to children. We challenge communities to adopt a spiritually guided synergistic approach when tackling challenges or working towards a common goal, (such as construction of a basketball court). In a system where skills & resources can be sporadic in nature, embracing a volunteered team effort brings together folk with a diverse skill set that often gets projects accomplished.

Provide Social Escape

The play based sports approach we deploy allows program participants to forget about the problems they face at home and become children again in a safe place. The model delivers a much needed social outlet that children need to recover from day to day social trauma. Children have shared with us experiences about losing both parents to HIV/AIDS, in which case they have had to take over the family responsibility of looking after their siblings. Forfeiting the right of childhood and adopting the overwhelming role of parenthood in an environment characterized by acute shortages of basic resources often becomes traumatic for children. The community based sports program promotes maximum participation of children and restores hope.
