Sports Gear Is Key In Enhancing Children's Morale

Sports gear presents a strategic asset that we deploy to enhance self esteem among underserved children. Our model positions sport as the basic ingredient for developing social & lifetime skills needed to breakdown barriers and overcome poverty. Ensuring that children have access to appropriate sports gear is a critical step towards fostering a lasting passion for the game.

Sports Gear Collection Drive

Sports is the global currency that our program employs to invest in long term social & lifetime skills development among children. Our commitment is to deliver on our 'No Child Plays Without Gear Promise" in an environment characterized by limited or no basic resources. We appeal to coaches, sports teams, and families in the USA to kindly consider donating sports equipment for children in our program to enjoy the game and play with confidence. To this date, we have supplied sports gear that impacted more than 5000 children at rural schools in Zimbabwe. Thanks to the Indiana Pacers, Indiana Soccer, Connecticut Attack Basketball, & families in Indiana for donating basketball & soccer equipment that are impacting children.

Behavior Modification

Advancing behavior modification for underserved children requires a series of catalysts that work together to support the cause. An organized sports program complemented by basic sports equipment & teaching materials are paramount to providing a strategic platform to educate children about overcoming social challenges in life. The psychological impact of suiting up for a game in appropriate gear not only helps children enjoy the game but more importantly enhances their self esteem that can translate into in class performance. Our program is also helping increase gains on gender disparities that typically hinder community progression.

Closing The Gender Gap

Closing the gender disparity gap & increasing gains for young girls is a top priority for the program. We are passionate about giving girls the unique opportunity to participate, lead and dominate within a predominantly boys social area. Since deploying our No Child Plays Without drive, in Zimbabwe, we have witnessed a 30% increase of girls taking part in sport. With the mandated 50% girls' inclusion in our youth sport program, the community is seeing a significant drop in teenage pregnancies & increase in self initiation & leadership roles played by girls.

St. Claire's Sneaker Donation

Here is what gear we collect

Gently Used Basketball Gear

Thanks to Connecticut Attack Basketball Program, we have been able to collect gently used basketball gear helps kids in underserved communities across Zimbabwe play with confidence & enjoy the game. We collect sports gear from the USA for shipment to Zimbabwe. Items we collect include, basketball sneakers, basketballs, & uniforms.

Gently Used Soccer Gear

Despite soccer being the world's most popular sport, young boys & girls have no access to basic protective gear. Our goal is to ensure that every child who has a passion for the game gets to suit up in appropriate gear. Through our partnership with Indiana Soccer, we have been able to support at least 20 schools with soccer cleats, balls & uniforms.

Volleyball Materials

Expanding the range of sports programs offered at rural school level is a first step to ensuring all children have access to alternative sports. Thanks to our friends at Anderson University that have donated old uniforms that kids are using on the ground. We collect volleyballs, nets, knee guards, and instructional materials for coaches.

Recycled Trophies & Medals

Our program deploys trophies & medals as a positive reenforcement tool to recognize & reward outstanding performance. Thanks to our friends at Bardach Awards, Indianapolis, we get to recycle, & replate collected trophies, medals & awards from the USA for donation to our program participants in Zimbabwe. The initiative has scored huge successes considering the majority of children have never received a medal or trophy.

Coaching/Officiating Materials

Teaching sound game fundamentals must be complemented by training volunteer officials on proper officiating skills. The strategy is for each rural school to have a trained & certified volunteer coach & official to ensure game development & program longevity. Certified volunteers receive officiating tools including the stripped shirt, mini-manual pump, a basketball, whistle, a Connecticut Basketball Officials Blazer & rule guide.

Other Sports Memorabilia

We welcome donation of any other sports memorabilia that can potentially go towards our fundraising efforts or simply as motivational tools for children. Thanks to the Indiana Pacers organization for their support, more than 500 children and volunteer coaches have received a Pacers shirt & basketballs.

How The Sports Gear Is Impacting Lives

Enhance Schools Partnerships

There are several advantages associated with partnering with schools. These include, high program yield, sports gear accountability, safe environment for children, emphasis on education, & availability of teaching staff. Therefore all collected sports gear is donated directly to rural schools in Makoni District. This strategy is in keeping with a key component of our values: Keeping children in school & draw the parallel between the positive values of sport and education.

Organized Sports Program

A central component of our program is for children to be involved in structured program that allows them to learn habit success patterns of life. The strategy is to have schools within close proximity of each other to compete with one another for travel trophies. All donated gear has successfully been channelled towards supporting the district wide sports programs. Structured programs allow children to learn sound fundamentals of the game and compete with one another.

Game Officiating Development

While every effort is made to develop sound fundamentals of sport, the same must be dedicated towards developing the rules of the game. Providing Training volunteer officials with necessary resources is in keeping with game development &

Children's Development

Sport isn't fun when you play barefoot. A unique way to encourage program participants to learn & enjoy sport is to equip them with basic sports gear. Research shows that children draw self esteem from a wide range of factors including actively participating in a sports program with appropriate gear. Participants that are actively involved in our sports program get to keep the sneakers they receive.

Promoting Volunteerism

The thrust behind our program is the concept of impacting lives through volunteer efforts. We work with the local teaching community that we train to become volunteer coaches & officials on the program. Developing a culture of volunteering among underprivileged communities is an important step towards promoting a synergistic approach to goal attainment.

Changing Teaching Methods

The inception of our sports based approach & availability of sports gear is enabling teachers to transition from the traditional spanking punishment approach to positive reenforcement. Teachers now have an additional motivational tool to get children engaged academically.
